Biography

Jan Knopf, retired professor of literature, head of the Bertolt Brecht Factory (ABB at KIT, since 1989), still active as a journalist, writer, occasionally: playwright, dramaturg and stage director, most recently: »The shifty Hebel« (Sandkorn Karlsruhe, 2017 ) and »Apparatus Escapade« (Badische Landesbühne Bruchsal, 2019). Over 80 books as editor of Bertolt Brecht's and Johann Peter Hebel’s collected works and as author on Dürrenmatt, Brecht, Hebel, the novel of the early modern age, on calendars and calendar stories, and on the connection between literary, natural and technical sciences; most recently »Bertolt Brecht's successful brand. Threepennies for food & morale« (2017) and »Brecht’s Lai-tu« (2023).

Jan Knopf has been a freelance researcher at the ZKM | Karlsruhe since 2011.
