Observation and formulation is based on a film script by Josef Albers from 1954 and presents for the first time Albers’ foundation course, held in 1953/1954 at the Ulm School of Design, true to the original manuscript. This film provides a vivid depiction of exercises on drawing, study of material, paper folding, and color and is a useful guide for own experiments. The DVD also contains essays by Rainer K. Wick, Martin Krampen, and Michael Götte, as well as letters and manuscripts.
