World premiere recordings/ Life Recordings

"Perhaps my art is the art of a madman, a sparkling mercury, a blue soul that bursts over my paintings."

This quote from Marc Chagall's autobiography »My Life« is the starting point for Noriko Kawakami's new composition »At the Easel«, which she created in 2004 at the ZKM | Hertz-Lab (at this time ZKM | Institute for Music and Acoustics). She used this text as sound material for her play-along tape, as well as saxophone sounds such as key and air noises and played notes. The work for two saxophones and four speakers is her first attempt to put speakers and instrumentalists on an equal footing.

»An der Staffelei« was created during a guest artist residency of Noriko Kawakami at the ZKM | Hertz-Lab (ZKM | Institute for Music and Acoustics) and was premiered on May 13, 2005 in the context of the concert »An der Staffelei - Saxophon und Elektronik« at the Kubus of the ZKM.
