Mitali Banerjee
Biography
Mitali Banerjee is an Assistant Professor in the Strategy and Business Policy department at HEC Paris.
Her research combines cutting edge tools in machine learning with unique empirical contexts such as modern art and jazz to study how social structure and properties of creative output shapes producers' success. In the context of modern art, she uses deep learning tools to construct a measure of differentiation of art works of early 20th century modern artists. She combines this measure with the artists' social network structure to study artists' career outcomes such as media visibility and exhibition opportunities. In other projects on creative industries, she examines how jazz musicians' appeal among experts and general audiences shapes their career outcomes.
She completed her Ph.D. in Management from Columbia Business School.
She graduated Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa with a double major in Mathematics (BS) and Economics (BA) from the University of Rochester.
