Biography

Marieke van de Ven creates sound walks, podcasts, audio stories, electroacoustic compositions and field recordings. Inspired by the sounds that surround us, she explores the musicality and narratives shaped by nature and the urban environments. Through the layering of field recordings, abstract sounds, interviews and text, she explores the relationship between sound, storytelling and narrative. Over the last years she has built up a repertoire of various multidisciplinary collaborations with choreographers, artists and writers. Van de Ven's work has been performed and broadcast at Gaudeamus Muziekweek, NAISA, Blaues Rauschen Festival, FAQ Festival and November Music. In 2023 she published "ZAND", an artistic research with grains of sand as material, concept and sound. She recently released the cassette "LIJN 14" (recorded in the Willem Twee studios) with works of electronic music. Marieke van de Ven studied composition and sound design at the Utrecht School of the Arts, Faculty of Music Technology.
