Biography

Kevin Barz, born in Oberhausen in 1989, is an actor and opera director. He studied applied theater studies in Giessen and directing at the Otto Falckenberg School in Munich. His graduation project "Saal 600", a documentary music theater project about the Nuremberg trials, won second place at the Körber Studio for Young Directors at the Thalia Theater Hamburg. Following his studies, he directed at the Münchner Kammerspiele and the Bayerische Staatsoper, among others, and was resident director at the Mainfranken Theater Würzburg from the 19/20 season to the 21/22 season. During the 22/23 and 23/24 seasons, Kevin Barz was artistic director of the "Technical Ballroom" at the Oldenburg State Theater, a cross-disciplinary project on the subject of digitality. Barz also developed his own plays here.

With Christian Firmbach's new directorship, Barz is establishing the new "Digital Theater" at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, based on the Oldenburg model. His works there will also pursue the aim of dealing with the possibilities and issues of digitalization, both formally and in terms of content, without losing sight of the core moment of theater: the real encounter between players and spectators in a shared space.
