Michael Mönninger
Biography
Michael Mönninger studied German, philosophy, sociology, and art history in Frankfurt/Main. He completed his master degree in 1985. From 1986–2007, he worked as an editor, architecture critic, and foreign correspondent for F.A.Z., SPIEGEL and DIE ZEIT, among other publications. He completed his doctoral thesis on nineteenth-century art theory in Karlsruhe in 1995 under the supervision of Heinrich Klotz and Hans Belting. In 1995/1996, he was a fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin. In 1999/2000, he was a stand-in professor for Friedrich Achleitner at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. Since 2007, he has been a professor of architecture and spatial arts at the Braunschweig University of Art. His recent publications include Von der Sozialutopie zum städtischen Haus. Texte und Interviews von Hans Stimmann; Zwischen Traum und Trauma. Stadtplanung der Nachkriegsmoderne (both DOM-Publishers, Berlin, 2011), Coop Himmelb(l)au, Complete Works (Taschen, Cologne, 2010), as well as Camillo Sitte Gesamtausgabe.
