Following the tremendous response to last year’s conference the ZKM has decided to stage a second Linux Audio Conference.

The Linux operating system has been in widespread server use for many years now and is increasingly being deployed for office applications. In the field of audio it is gradually developing into a platform to be reckoned with. Users already have access to a wealth of very varied applications. The ALSA sound architecture supports professional sound cards and together with the new kernel it forms part of the standard equipment of every Linux system. Special kernel adjustments ensure very short latency times.

During the conference well-known software developers from all over the world will report on their projects. The presentations will range from the technical basics of ALSA to applications in the areas of hard disk recording, mastering, MIDI sequencing, software synthesis, real-time processing, algorithmic composition and music typesetting. Useful background information on digital signal processing [DSP] will also be provided. Dave Phillips, author of the first book on Linux Audio as well as of several articles on the subject, will report on the progress achieved in the documentation of Linux Audio software. In addition to the presentations there will be an opening concert [Thur 29 April 2004] and a Linux Sound Night – Electronica produced with Linux [Sat 01.05.04]
