The collaborative work »Tides of Memories – The Other Time I Drowned« is an audio-visual real-time installation that is partly fictive and partly based on facts, narrated from the water’s perspective dreaming of becoming something else.
The artists Helin Ulas and Karolina Sobel in collaboration with Célestin Meunier have created an experimental and immersive work that invites visitors on a journey through dreams and nightmares. The partly fictional, partly fact-based audiovisual real-time installation speaks from the perspective of water, that dreams of becoming something else than water in its substance – should it be the air, the ice or the mist? The installation draws on memories of water from various sources, including the artists' own experiences, scientific contexts, sea rescues and headlines – with the help of a machine learning algorithm.
The work produced in cooperation with the ZKM can be enjoyed free of charge on the museum balcony.
The audiovisual real-time installation »Tides of Memories – The Other Time I Drowned« is part of the exhibition »Media art is here«, which can be seen in Karlsruhe's city area from August 15 to September 15, 2024. On the occasion of the Schlosslichtspiele, the Karlsruhe Cultural Office once again presents a wide-ranging exhibition of media art in public urban spaces this summer. The ZKM is both exhibition venue and production partner.
