On May 16 and 17, a two-day workshop with media artist John Sanborn and curator, professor and media critic Stephen Sarrazin takes place at ZKM.  

 

Day 1: Wed, May 16, 2018

 10 am –12 pm  

Illuminated short talks by John Sanborn on the topics of »video + music« and »collaboration processes and their products«.

 

  • »video + music«: questions the nature of music as it is associated with moving images, explores works where the conditions of interdependency are at once fluid and constrained.
  • processes and their products« features off-shoots from Sanborn’s work with music, including working with Philip Glass, Robert Ashley, Dorian Wallace and John Zorn; but focuses on works with performers Bill T. Jones, and the Post:Ballet ensemble.

 2 pm – 4 pm

From concept through concluding presentation in diverse environmenta: John Sanborn presents an in depth deconstruction of five of his recent installation works

 

Case studies will allow attendees to understand the details inherent in creating multi-channel installed works.

Day 2, Thursday, May 17, 2018 

 10 am – 12 pm

Stephen Sarrazan speaks about the history of video art, and how John Sanborn’s work fits into the evolution of the medium

 1 pm – 2 pm Lunch 
 2 pm – 4 pm 

John Sanborn will open up his conception, production and post-production processes by working on »Pensées Aléatoires du Future«, a collaborative which he will have just produced in Bourges, France with the arts organization »Bandits Mages«

 

Real-time Input from the attendees will be welcome.

 4 pm–5 pm Discussion and debate with Stephen Sarrazin and John Sanborn
