»Critical Zones« as a guest at EnBW Karlsruhe
The installation »Eau de Karlsruhe – Cyprès« by Fabien Léaustic can currently be admired at EnBW. On the occasion of the exhibition »Critical Zones«, the »ecosystem« of cypresses and electric light shows the symbiotic relationship between natural and artificial elements.

Peter Weibel receives the TREBBIA Prize 2020
The artistic-scientific director of the ZKM Peter Weibel receives this year's TREBBIA Award. The renowned award honors artists, companies, and benefactors from all over the world. The award ceremony will take place on Sunday, March 22, 2020 in Prague.

The Federal Cultural Foundation's »Fonds Digital« is implementing a project that breaks new ground in museum communication and mediation: »The Intelligent Museum«. The aim of the project is to implement an AI-supported exhibition concept.

Anniversary publication: National Socialism in Karlsruhe
Within the framework of the school project »NS in Karlsruhe«, pupils have gone on a search for clues in Karlsruhe. Their exhibition »How much history is in you?« can be seen until April 24, 2020 in the Karlsruhe General State Archive. Results and thoughts on the project are recorded in the anniversary brochure, which is hot off the press.

Students develop chatbot interfaces
Unter dem Titel »As We May Speak« hatte das ZKM dazu aufgerufen, Ideen für ein Chatbot-Interface zu entwickeln, das im ZKM installiert werden soll. Der erste Preis in Höhe von 2.000 Euro geht an das Projekt »Blank Page«, das von Studierenden der Hochschule Pforzheim entwickelt wurde.

UNESCO reached a decision – Karlsruhe is the first German Creative City of Media Arts
A great sense of happiness in Karlsruhe: The city joins the international UNESCO Creative Cities Network – the first german city in the category of Media Arts. The announcement was made by the Director-General of UNESCO in Paris.

Open Codes at Baden-Württemberg State Representation in Berlin
After successful exhibition stations in Mumbai, Karlsruhe and Shanghai, »Open Codes« can now be viewed in the Baden-Württemberg State Representation to the Federal Government in Berlin. The exhibition and educational project will be shown from October 2 to 17, 2019. The travel version of the exhibition presented by the ZKM focuses on technological developments in Baden-Württemberg.

New research project: digilog@bw
The research project digilog@bw explores the three central themes of digitization – autonomy, knowledge and participation. What influence does digitization have on people? What societal changes will emerge? These are the questions that the interdisciplinary research network is investigating.

ZKM on 1st place of the most approved EU projects in a German comparison
In the period from 2014 to 2019, the ZKM | Karlsruhe has received approval for six applications each for funding of cooperation projects by the European Union. This means that the ZKM has been granted the most cooperation projects in a German comparison.

Karlsruhe as Creative City of Media Arts
Karlsruhe wants to become the first German UNESCO Creative City of Media Arts. The city has applied for admission to the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) with the recommendation of the German UNESCO Commission. The application is supported by the website www.cityofmediaarts.de, which provides information on the city's media art projects.

A travel version of the exhibition »Open Codes« can be seen from June 13 to July 3, 2019 in the Kunstraum of Leuphana University Lüneburg. As part of a project seminar, students developed an exhibition concept that explores current technologies against the background of Enlightenment.

ZKM at the VerfassungsFEST
From May 24–25, 2019, the ZKM will be represented with the game »Democracy Machine« at the »Bürgerfest« at Karlsruhe Schlossgarten. The »Bürgerfest« is part of the VerfassungsFEST, a festival with which Karlsruhe celebrates the 70th anniversary of the Basic Law in Germany.

Visitor success in Indian Mumbai
From February 2–10, 2019 a travel version of the »Open Codes« exhibition was shown in Mumbai. The exhibition and numerous workshops inspired around 13,000 Indian visitors.

Educational experiment Open Codes extended
160,000 visitors alone have visited the »Open Codes« exhibition since October 2017, a record number of visitors and a reason for us to extend the exhibition – with free admission, free drinks and snacks, free WLAN and electricity – until April 7, 2019.

OPEN CALL: Graphical Notation

ZKM mourns the loss of long-time inspirer and companion Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Peter Deussen
Peter Deussen was a man of the first hour of the ZKM. As an important founding actor of the ZKM, he was a member of the Board of Trustees since 1992 and from 1998 also its deputy chairman for almost 20 years. The ZKM is deeply indebted to Prof. Dr. Peter Deussen.

As an experimental video artist and founder of the performance space »The Kitchen«, Woody Vasulka took a formative role in audiovisual art. His best-known work »The Art of Memory« can be seen in the exhibition »Writing the History of the Future«.
