Choo-Choose
Petrushkov Mikhail, Grigoriev Konstantin, Kalmykova Ekaterina, Avdeev Oleg, Yustovich Ksenia – 2017
A train moves towards points where the line branches into two tracks; it cannot be stopped. On the lines behind the points there are people, animals, or objects.
»Choo-Choose« now forces the players to make an ethical decision: Who or what gets run over. Is a television set more important than a book? Cat or dog? Happy manager or sad patient? No objectively correct decisions exist; they are determined solely by the values of the player.
The mind game used here, which is known in philosophical ethics as the »Trolley Problem«, was already formulated in the 1930s.
»Choo-Choose« was created in 2017 in the contxt of the »ART GAMES« game jam of the Goethe-Institut in Novosibirsk, Russia.
