Media Literacy Days

Early Start in Media Education

Wed, October 12, 2011 9:30 am CEST

How can sensible and responsible behavior such as active and creative media usage be encouraged right from the start, beginning in kindergarten and elementary school? What aids do children need for orientation within the media world, to develop competent and increasingly independent media behaviors? The regional Media Literacy Days would like to answer these and other questions with events promoting the launch of the program. On 12 October 2011 at ZKM | Karlsruhe, current developments in media behaviors of children will be shown and suggestions will be offered which support comprehensive media competence. This year’s motto is: “Media Education – An Early Start.”

That is why the state governments, in cooperation with the Landesanstalt für Kommunikation / LFK (State Communication Institute), and SWR, the Landesmedienzentrum / LMZ (State Media Center) and the Media- and Film Association of Baden-Württemberg has called to life the initiative “Children’s Media Land Baden-Württemberg.” With this state-wide media competence initiative, numerous projects, activities, and actors in the region will be bundled, interconnected, and complemented, in addition to creating interest among a broader public in the area of media education and learning. At the Internet portal www.kindermedienland-bw.de, parents, caretakers, and teaching personnel will be able to access a comprehensive overview of the close-meshed network of contacts and activities in the Children’s Media Land Baden-Württemberg.
