Biography

Sultana Zana (they/them) (India) is a multi-disciplinary artist whose practice spans sound, film, browser-based art and bio art. They are interested in sense perception, time, networked systems, insect perception, tree intelligence and experiences of beings that are not human.

Their blockchain based ecological network and database platform, »Fieldness« (2020 – present) is a recipient of a grant from Goethe-Institut Bangalore / Max Mueller Bhavan and was realized within the framework of »Five Million Incidents« (2019 – 20). The 2nd version of »Fieldness« (2020 – present) is set to be launched in May 2022 at the particle.art platform in Milan, Italy. Their video and installation work has been shown in multiple exhibitions in Toronto, Dresden, Brighton, Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Himachal and Goa.

Zana has co-founded the collective NOTAAT with artist Puneet Jain. NOTAAT’s work titled »Creation of Birds« was shown at the ELO (Electronic Literature Organization) conference 2021.

Zana is part of the team running Walkin Studios, an independent multidisciplinary art studio and project space in Bangalore, India.
