On the 4 December, 1999 the artrias 1 and 2 of the Hallenbau of the Museum of Contemporary Art opened one of the aims of which was to present important private art collections belonging to the state of Baden-Württemberg. The Museum made its appearance together with the internationally renowned collections of the FER, Frieder Burda, Froehlich, Grässlin and Siegfried Weishaupt. In subsequent years, the circle of collectors was to change: in 2004 the Boros collection was added, Frieder Burda opened an independent museum in Baden-Baden, in 2005, and the Froehlich collection decided to go its own way in 2006. In the same year, it was to undergo a further extension: since then also counting among the collections cooperating with ZKM | Museum of Contemporary Art, are the VAF-Stiftung/MART as well as the Landesbank Baden-Württemberg Collection. According to collection and thematically-related foci, the works belonging to these partners together with exhibits from the ZKM_Collection, loans from all over the world as well as new productions will be shown over a 6500sq. m. surface.

A visiting party will be given as conclusion to the anniversary celebration of the ZKM | Museum of Contemporary Art on the 6 December.
The admission in the newly opened anniversary exhibition “just what is it ...” is free on this Sunday! The whole family can marvel at the classics of art history over the past 100 years during free guided tours.
