The Origin of Noise − The Noise of the Origin

3D Noise Concert by Peter Weibel

Thu, April 25, 2013 7:00 pm CEST

As part of this year’s international Donaufestival [Danube festival] in Krems, ZKM Chairman Peter Weibel along with the Hotel Morphila Orchester will be holding a premier performance of a 3D-Rausch concert. This involves an experimental arrangement of the future of the concert as interactive, multimedia sculpture:

"It has recently been discovered that the noise of the television screen to some extent consists of cosmic background radiation. It is not Kepler’s Harmony of the Spheres, not the sound of the spheres that forms the music of the universe, but the noise. [...] Here, noise is not only an acoustic phenomenon, but also a visual one. It arises not only from objects, but also from human beings, the observers. Noise is an interactive phenomenon between world and man. 3D glasses enable the concert-goer to see how the noise forms itself in space. Floods of data, numbers and signs generate acoustic noise and produce visual patterns of noise: The listener is given a new lesson in consciousness expansion. In the digital age, we are all only particles in an ocean of data, data media and data hunters. We are ourselves data of the data noise." (Peter Weibel)

In October the concert will also be performed as part of the program of the 3D festival BEYOND at the ZKM | Karlsruhe. In collaboration with the Karlsruhe University of Art and Design (HfG), the city of Karlsruhe and the ZKM presents BEYOND, innovations from the sphere of spatially projected media, artistic installations and performances. Furthermore, BEYOND provides information about current developments in the 3D sphere and its vision of the future in the spheres of entertainment, engineering and education.
