Martina Kopf is a research assistant at the Chair of General and Comparative Literature of the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz. As part of the »BLACK FLAGS« exhibition, she will talk about the concept of "creolization" developed by the Caribbean writer and philosopher Édouard Glissant in connection with the video work »Ombre indigène (Part 2, Martinique)« by Edith Dekyndt. Dekyndt’s work shows a flag made of black hair waving in the wind, located not far from the grave of Édouard Glissant (1928–2011) on the Caribbean island of Martinique. Against the background of recent references to the ideas of the pioneer of post-colonial cultural theory in French politics, she will also take a look at current migration discourses.
