Biography

Dominik Kautz studied musicology and philosophy at the Ruprecht Karl University of Heidelberg (B.A.) and the University of Cologne (M.A. ethnomusicology and systematic musicology). He worked for the internationally renowned Enjoy Jazz festival taking place in Heidelberg, Mannheim, and Ludwigshafen. As a freelance music editor, he wrote for laut.depopmatters.com, and regioactive.de. Kautz completed a scientific trainee in electronic music and sound art at Hertzlab, the artistic research and development department of the ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe. Since then, he has worked there as a project manager and co-curator of the institution's music program, including the festivals "Giga-Hertz Award for Electronic Music and Sound Art", Europe's largest gathering of young composers from university studios for electronic music, "next_generation," and the concert series "Sonic Experiments," which presents contemporary up-to-date developments in various genres of experimental electronic music. He has worked with Alvin Lucier, Laurie Spiegel, George Lewis, Christina Kubisch, and Lea Bertucci, among others, and serves on various juries, including the Prix Cime 2025 Electroacoustic Music Competition and the German Record Critics' Award in the Electronic & Experimental category. He loves listening to experimental and progressive music from electronic to psychedelic, stoner, and doom.
