Wilke Thiele will accompany the film screening with a short presentation. He is geneticist, working at the Institute of Toxicology and Genetics at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). He also designed the installation »valid_invalid« for the exhibition »GLOBAL CONTROL AND CENSORSHIP«.

As well as »perfectly« put-together clones, the world of »Gattaca« is also home to those who were created naturally and those with genetic defects. The »invalids« are treated like second-class people and only carry out underling tasks in the society that is controlled and monitored by »perfect« people.

Vincent Freeman is one of these invalids, a naturally sired man, who also suffers from severe short-sightedness and a heart defect. Nevertheless, he is keen on space travel from an early age and continues to aspire to be an astronaut even in adulthood. As he cannot achieve this legally, he buys the identity of athlete Jerome Eugene Morrow, a genetically perfect athlete, who is wheelchair-bound after an accident. He provides Vincent with skin cells, urine samples and blood samples each day in order to pass the regular genetic tests at the Gattaca Aerospace Corporation undetected. Everything seems perfect and Vincent gets closer and closer to his dream until he falls under suspicion of murder...
