The dystopian science fiction film by director François Truffaut is based on the 1953 novel of the same name by Ray Bradbury.

The society of a not all too distance future believes that books bring bad luck. For this reason, they are prohibited by law and the fire department ensures that all books are burned to protect social fortune.

The protagonist of the story is fireman Guy Montag. After a fateful encounter with suspended teacher Clarisse, Guy begins to read in secret. Soon he begins to question his work and the hedonistic pursuit of happiness of the society, in which he lives. His marriage, his job and his life begin to unravel. He quits and follows Clarisse to the »Book People«, who live secluded from society and each learn a book by heart so that it is not forgotten.

Original language with German subtitles.
