The ZKM | Hertzlab operates at the interface of the latest technology and art. Curious people from all over the world come together here to deal with questions about the future in the fields of art & media, sound art & music and creative technology: How will we live in 100 years? How will AI find its way into music? And how does a nanobot flea circus actually work?

Discover with us the history of media art of the 20th and 21st centuries: with around 12,700 works, ZKM has the largest collection of computer-based works in the world, one of the largest video art collections in Europe and important works of light and sound art, kinetic art and electronic music. If you want to find out more about how the works were created and what artists and theorists had to say about them, you will find what you are looking for in our more than 200 archives.

Even if you have not yet visited us, you may have already come across our books and other publications. Since its foundation, ZKM has brought out over 570 publications, many of them with major academic and art publishers. Some have become true classics.

The joint ZKM and HfG library has a collection of around 80,000 books and digital data carriers. After your visit, we cordially invite you to delve deeper into the topics of our program, browse through many beautiful art books or simply read the newspaper in peace.

In the co-working space in the media lounge, you can work alone or with others in a creative environment - together at tables or in seclusion in our cozy alcove armchairs.

So that you can experience a diverse program at ZKM, our colleagues from Event and Technology are busy every day with organization, production, construction and repair. 

The Administration team deals with all matters relating to ZKM as an institution. From personnel to mail distribution, a wide variety of tasks are handled here.
