The ZKM at 25! A Panorama of 1960s Revolution

With the 25th year of its founding, the ZKM now casts back to the 1960s, a decade marked by the outbreak of revolutionary movements. With Beuys Brock Vostell from Germany, with the »godfather« of avant-garde-cinema, Jonas Mekas from the USA and with Lebel the Rebel from France, we present the origins of Action and Media art. From July through to the early part of November, the ZKM is exhibiting a panorama of fundamental, artistic revolutionary and avant-garde movements in a unique constellation of German, French and American examples, the art of which – from performance through to media – has so powerfully defined the 21st century. From December 12, 2014 on, the works of media and performance artist Lynn Hershman Leeson, a key representative of the feminist revolution, will also be on show with a ZKM retrospective.
