»Seeing culture in a different light« is the title of the 6th Karlsruhe Museum Night, KAMUNA for short, on 7 August 2004. Visitors to the 13 Karlsruhe cultural institutions, which join together once a year for a special night shift, will need plenty of stamina. During the unusual opening hours of 18.00 to 1.00, night owls interested in culture can be chauffeured to the institutions involved and immerse themselves in art, music and literature.
The ZKM | Centre for Art and Media Karlsruhe is contributing the following exhibitions this year:
Call me ISTANBUL ist mein Name Visitors are invited to experience the extensive dialogue now taking place between the urban structure of Istanbul and the architects, artists, designers and researchers who live and work in the city.
Bazile: A measure for all Video documents of an investigation. Exhibition of the ”Une mesure pour tous” project in the project room at the ZKM | Media Museum.
Bernard Bazile has researched into one of the symbols of the radical avant-garde: the famous ”Merda d´artista” by Piero Manzoni. The outcome is an 11-hour video documentation, in which Bazile interviews collectors, gallery owners and curators of Manzoni’s work.
Electronic Sounds The historic Studio for Electronic Composition by Hermann Heiß (1897-1966) Hermann Heiß (1897-1966), who began composing electro-acoustic music in 1952, was a source of inspiration to musicians and composers the world over. His original equipment is on display at the exhibition in the ZKM Media Lounge for the first time since 1996.
From 18:00 there are hourly presentations in the ZKM Media Theatre of the \mediaartrole featuring works from 11 years of the \internationalmediaartprize.
On show at the ZKM | Museum of New Art are the exhibitions entitled »Painting: Herbert Brandl – Helmut Dorner – Adrian Schiess – Christopher Wool” and ”Jean Baudrillard and the Arts – A Tribute on his 75th Birthday«.
Painting: Herbert Brandl – Helmut Dorner – Adrian Schiess – Christopher Wool
This ZKM exhibition features works by three European and one American painter of the middle generation. All four are internationally renowned artists and have exhibited their works on many occasions in individual and group exhibitions. Although each of them has been aware of the others’ presence for a long time and they hold one another in high regard, this is the first time they have staged a joint exhibition of their works. The artists reflect the history of modern autonomous painting in critical and varied ways.
Jean Baudrillard and the Arts – A Tribute on his 75th Birthday Everyone is familiar with the French thinker, Jean Baudrillard. An expert on apocalypse, a renegade and melancholic, he is not a man who likes to be pigeon-holed as a sociologist or philosopher. The fourth event in the ZKM Art and Philosophy series, this exhibition demonstrates the extensive influence Jean Baudrillard has had on contemporary art and culture.
The programme below contains information on other events at the ZKM during the KAMUNA, such as music, concerts and reading and relaxation in the tearoom.
