New Year with ”flick_ka&lrquo;. Anniversary celebration of “10 Years ZKM in Hall A”
The ZKM will inaugurate the new year with a “Day of the Open Door”. Numerous special tours of the exhibitions for children and adults and workshops for all age groups will afford an insight into the artistic possibilities of new media and their background in the theory of art. In this anniversary year the ZKM will place the active participation of visitors in the artworks at the center of its program and will present the results in the exhibition “YOU: The Century of the Consumer”, opening in mid-October. The prelude will be sounded by “flick_ka”, one of the projects at the popular portal “flickr.com”, which will invite the citizens of Karlsruhe to upload pictures of themselves. The result, “The Citizens of Karlsruhe”, will be presented at the exhibition, beginning on 10–18–07, as an expression of gratitude to the city of Karlsruhe. On the occasion of the exhibition “totalstadt.beijing case&lrquo; a Bobby Car race will be held in the HfG. All children are asked to bring their Bobby Cars.

Highlights

Sat.–Sun. 10 am–6 pm, ZKM_Media Theater
“cosmos³–Verklärte Nacht”. Light installation by rosalie
Before the Karlsruhe premier of “Verklärte Nacht” (based on Arnold Schönberg’s composition), the ZKM will show on the “Day of the Open Door” and the following Sunday the spectacular hanging light-garden designed by rosalie. “Beijing Bubbles” – Punk and Rock in China’s capital
The “Day of the Open Door” is not only a celebration of the ZKM’s birthday, but also a day of exhibition closings. For the closing of the exhibition “totalstadt. beijing case”, we take the opportunity of presenting before its German premier “Beijing Bubbles”, a documentary about five bands in Peking.

5 pm, ZKM_Lecture Hall
“Less is More”
The title of the exhibition “FASTER! BIGGER! BETTER! Signet Works of the Collections” provokes the question about the necessity of the ubiquitous chase after superlatives. This will be considered at a podium discussion entitled “Less is More!”.
