The Performer in Electronic Music

Sound Correspondences

Thu, June 24, 2010 6:00 pm CEST

Location
Lecture Hall
An electronic music concert is typically characterized by the absence of musicians on the stage and complex, instrumental “unplayable” sound structures – a situation in which listeners rely greatly on their own perception and the space because the musicians, as focus of attention and “mediators” of the music, are missing. At the ZKM | Institute for Music and Acoustics, numerous approaches have been developed to include musicians within the electronic environment. In the newly conceived concert talk series at ZKM, we speak with musicians and composers and discuss artistic strategies: the field of tension between presence and absence, between playable and unplayable structures as well as the artistic use of video and light, of body interfaces and sound correspondences.
