No Time to Wait! 8

The ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe will host the eighth edition of the renowned »No Time to Wait!« conference series. Taking place from Wednesday, September 11 to Friday, September 13, 2024, this international gathering brings together specialists and practitioners in the fields of media preservation, audiovisual archiving, and digital technology.

Collaboration and Innovation 
Since its inception in 2016, the »No Time to Wait!« conference series has established itself as a leading forum for advancing media preservation through open collaboration and knowledge-sharing. The conference, organized by MediaArea.net and ZKM | Karlsruhe, offers a space for dynamic exchanges, debates, and consensus-building among archivists, preservationists, and developers. With a focus on open standards and open-source software, it addresses the evolving challenges of preserving audiovisual content in the digital era.

The conference attracts a diverse community, from freelancers to representatives of large institutions, all committed to the long-term preservation of audiovisual content. With participants from over 30 countries across five continents, »No Time to Wait!« provides an unparalleled opportunity to learn about new approaches to tackling the complex challenges of media preservation and to build connections within a supportive global network of experts.

A Platform for Dynamic Discussion and Knowledge Exchange
The eighth edition of “No Time to Wait!” will focus on some of the most urgent issues related to the preservation of audiovisual and media content. These include "Overcoming Obsolescence", "Interconnecting Systems, Datasets, and People", "Crafting Standards, Workflows, and Practices", "Analog Advocacy", and "AI: Annoyances and Opportunities". The conference will cover a wide range of topics, with a particular emphasis on the ethical and technical implications of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and synthetic media. Sessions will explore a variety of practical techniques and strategies, from converting legacy media into digital formats to archiving social media content. Further discussions will address broader societal concerns such as resource sharing, human rights, and the role of archivists in an increasingly digital world. The first day of the conference, Wednesday, September 11, is dedicated to hands-on workshops.

Hybrid Format 
»No Time to Wait! 8« will again be a hybrid event, allowing for both in-person and online participation. The entire conference, with the exception of the workshops on Wednesday will be livestreamed on the MediaArea YouTube channel. Full documentation of the previous conferences is available for viewing on the same YouTube channel.
