Jacob Birken

Jacob Birken is a cultural and media historian. After studying at the HfG Karlsruhe, he worked at various cultural institutions and universities, including the ZKM Karlsruhe and the universities of Heidelberg and Kassel. In 2018, he completed his PhD on images of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, focusing on U.S. political culture in the 'long' 19th century and the history of digital image media; he is currently a post-doctoral researcher in the Department of North American History at the University of Cologne. His most recent publication, Videospiele, appeared in 2022 in Wagenbach Verlag's Digitale Bildkulturen series.
