Felix Burda Grants

Four Felix Burda Grants, in memory of the late Felix Burda, are given by Hubert Burda Foundation. The grants are destined for young curators and scholars whose specialties are contemporary art and the future of museums. The first grant was awarded on November 10, 2008 by the publisher Hubert Burda to the art historian Chin-tao Wu from Taiwan at Goethe-Institut München. The second award was awarded in December 2010 to the semiotician Sara Giannini from Bologna and the third one on June 1, 2011 to cultural economist Dr Clare McAndrew from Dublin.

ZKM Summer Fellowships 2009

Contemporary Art and the Global Age

From June 21 to July 1, 2009, ten international fellowships were granted to respondents of a Call for Papers by the ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe, supported by the Fritz Thyssen Foundation in conjunction with the research project GAM – Global Art and the Museum. During a seminar directed by Hans Belting and guests, the participants analyzed the situation of art museums, the art market, and art criticism under the spell of globalization. The 2009 Summer Seminar concluded with a public symposium at the ZKM on June 28.

Global Studies

From June 18 to June 20, the ZKM, with support by the Fritz Thyssen Foundation, issued a Call for Papers for junior scholars from various academic disciplines to discuss the current state of scholarship and research on global art and visual media. The Summer Academy was organized by the research project GAM and accompanied by invited guest speakers, including Chris Dercon, Thomas Fillitz and Monica Juneja.

Other Grants

Lia Colombino was awarded a scholarship by the Rave Foundation at the ifa Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen and stayed from May to August, 2007 at ZKM. During her time in Karlsruhe, she also participated in the project GAM. Starting in October 2010, the ZKM will host a Robert Bosch Cultural Manager, who will support the project GAM during the preparation of the The Global Contemporary exhibition.
