SCHLOSSLICHTSPIELE 2019
Thu, August 08 – Sun, September 15, 2019
- Location
- Palace Garden, Karlsruhe
The SCHLOSSLICHTSPIELE 2019 will take place from August 8 to September 15. Once again, the facade of Karlsruhe Palace will be illuminated by breathtaking projections and become the largest digital work of art in Europe. New works will be presented in 2019 under the theme »A Summer of Love and Life. Hate comes late – Love comes first«.
The SCHLOSSLICHTSPIELE Karlsruhe, organized by Karlsruhe Marketing and Event GmbH, is curated by Peter Weibel, artistic and scientific director of the ZKM | Karlsruhe. »In addition to the selection of the brilliant 3D projections on the palace facade, there are several new commissions from new and already known teams on the sujets of 'Origin of the Universe', 'Origin of Life', 'Origin of Love'.« Love is celebrated in all its forms, both religious and personal, by love for God and God's love for the world, which is reflected in the myths of origin of eastern, western, northern and southern religions, the curator of SCHLOSSLICHTSPIELE Karlsruhe continues. »From the Sea of Galilee to Woodstock there are councils of peace and love. Between J. S. Bach and Bob Dylan there are anthems to heaven«, Weibel goes on.

BBBank Young Talent Award presented for the first time
For the first time, the ZKM - Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe, the KME Karlsruhe Marketing and Event GmbH and the UNESCO City of Media Arts Karlsruhe, with the support of BBBank, announced and awarded the international »BBBank Newcomer Award in Projection Mapping«. From more than 60 applications, a jury of experts chose the show »Karlskompensator« by Genelabo and his team from Crushed Eyes Media as the winner.
With the financial support, the winners can now produce their contribution for the SCHLOSSLICHTSPIELE Karlsruhe 2021. The »Karlskompensator« takes viewers on a fantastic journey through the history of the city of Karlsruhe. It separates the different eras and at the same time functions as a connecting element of the show. Partially, individual components of the Karlskompensator will appear, dial new dates and transfer us to the next epoch. Historical, ethical and technological milestones of the city of Karlsruhe will come to life on the castle facade – Karlsruhe Palace will become a time machine.
BBBank is sponsoring the joint project as part of the anniversary of the 100th anniversary of the bank, which was founded and is headquartered in Karlsruhe.
