Biography
Thomas Gerwin is a composer and sound artist who has been active in the field of »acoustic ecology« for a long time. At his Berlin studio, Inter Art Project, he composes instrumental and electronic works for concerts and performances. He also stages experimental audio pieces and creates sound objects and installations. Gerwin often incorporates new media, theater, dance, film, light, and sculpture to express himself in his interactive or "situational" spatial artworks. Examples include the »KlangWeltKarte« at the ZKM Karlsruhe and the »Soundscape No. X« series. Gerwin has received various awards and scholarships, including international ones, and his works are performed, broadcast, and exhibited worldwide. Gerwin is the founder and artistic director of several ensembles, including the Kammerensemble ad hoc and the RaumKlangEnsemble. He was the artistic director of the International Sound Art Festival Berlin from 2004 to 2018 and the association chairman and artistic director of the annual intersonanzen festival of the BVNM from 2017 to 2023. He is also a lecturer at the Exploratorium Berlin. His sheet music is published by Ricordi and Verlag Neue Musik.
