Johannes Bennke

Biografie

Johannes Bennke studied Philosophy, Film Studies and Comparative Literature in Frankfurt am Main, Berlin and Paris. He finished his Master in European Media Studies at the University of Potsdam and wrote his thesis under the supervision of Dieter Mersch and Michael Mayer on the term "image" in Emmanuel Levinas' writing with an analysis of the film »The Act of Killing« by Joshua Oppenheimer (»Bildkonversionen. Zum Wandel der Performativität und ihrer Episteme in künstlerischen Praktiken«).

Currently he is working on his PhD at the KOMA – Competence Centre for Media Anthropology at the Bauhaus University Weimar. His topic is the performativity and alterity of media ethics and its documentary practices with a special regard to visual anthropology. During his study he had a scholarship of the Ev. Studienwerk Villigst e.V where he was the speaker of a working group on art and science. He is one of the founding members of the online film magazine »FRAGMENT FILM«. Before his studies he worked several years as an architecture photographer and graphic designer for David Chipperfield Architects.
