Lynn Hershman Leeson: Civic Radar

»Lynn Hershman Leeson: Civic Radar« ist die erste umfassende Monografie des internationalen Stars der Medienkunst. Lynn Hershman Leeson gehört zu den ersten und wohl einflussreichsten Medienkünstlerinnen. Während der letzten fünf Jahrzehnte hat sie in den Bereichen Fotografie, Video, Film, Performance, Installation und interaktive sowie netzbasierte Medienkunst Wegweisendes geleistet. Die großen Themen von Hershman Leeson sind die Konstruktion von Identität, Überwachung bzw. Kontrolle und das Leben im Zeitalter der Gentechnologie. Ihre bekannteste Werkreihe ist Roberta Breitmore (1973–1978) eine Kunstfigur, verkörpert von ihr selbst und – teilweise simultan – von drei weiteren Frauen. Als eine Art Klon der Künstlerin wird deren Leben in Echtzeit und in der realen Außenwelt inszeniert. In ihren jüngsten Arbeiten bezieht Hershman Leeson Web-Applikationen und Massenkommunikationsmittel wie Smartphones mit ein und rückt auch neueste wissenschaftliche Entwicklungen auf dem Gebiet der Genetik und der regenerativen Medizin in den Fokus ihrer künstlerischen Arbeit – einschließlich 3-D-Biodruckern, die Teile des menschlichen Körpers nachbauen.
