Biografie

Karl-Peter Sommermann is professor of public law, political theory, and comparative law. He studied law and history at the universities of Bonn, Germany, and Geneva, Switzerland, and administrative sciences at the German University of Administrative Sciences Speyer. This was followed by one year of research in Madrid at the Complutense University and at the Centre of Political and Constitutional Studies. In 1984, Sommermann received his Doctor of Law from the University of Bonn, and two years later he completed the Second State Examination in Law. He next became a lecturer at the Institute for Public International Law of the University of Bonn, and from 1989 to 1998 he was Secretary General of the Research
Institute for Public Administration in Speyer. In 1996, he received the »venia legendi« from the Humboldt University of Berlin in public law, public constitutional history. Since 1998, he is a full professor of public law, political theory, and comparative law at the German University of Administrative Sciences Speyer. Additionally, he is visiting professor at the University of Paris 1 (Panthéon-Sorbonne), at the Sciences Po, Paris, at the Andean University Simón Bolívar (La Paz / Sucre), and at the Fluminense Federal University (Rio de Janeiro). He is a former director of the Research Institute of Public Administration and rector of the German University of Administrative Sciences Speyer, and president of the Scientific Council of the Advisory Board of the Federal Academy of Public Administration.
