The art meets science - Herbert W. Franke Foundation and the ZKM | Centre for Art and Media Karlsruhe invite you to the first »Generative Art Summit«. The conference and accompanying events will take place from 3 to 6 July 2024 at the Akademie der Künste Berlin and Schloss Wolfsburg.

The »Generative Art Summit« connects seven decades of ‘generative art’ - from the photographic and electronic experiments of the 1950s to current digital projects that explore the potential of artificial intelligence and blockchain technology for the arts. The event enables an extraordinary meeting of several generations: Pioneers of digital art and young artists, art theorists, curators and collectors discuss the origins and future of generative art. The inspiring starting point of the event is the groundbreaking work of Herbert W. Franke (1927-2022), whose archive has been preserved and made accessible at the ZKM since 2017.

Susanne Paech, founder of the Herbert W. Franke Foundation, initiator and organiser of the event: ‘It's great that so many guests of honour from all over the world are accepting the invitation and coming together for a few days in Berlin and Wolfsburg. Many members of the large generative art community will be meeting in person for the first time. The Foundation is delighted to be able to facilitate these encounters."

Alistair Hudson, Scientific-Artistic Director of the ZKM: ’We are delighted to be a partner of the Herbert W. Franke Foundation and its first Generative Art Summit in Berlin. Guests from all over the world will report as contemporary witnesses from many decades and provide unique insights into the development of generative art. ‘
