Documentary Creation
A philosophy worthy of its name is that which is capable of remaining faithful to counter-evidence. Now, it seems evident—as a result of a trivial observation—that images produced by means of the most sophisticated techniques
welcome and reproduce a reality that escapes all questioning. From that to think that the so-called realism justifies to speak of images in terms of truth, there is but a gap that documentary films could aim to cross. Here philosophy shares with the register of gestures-in-images (gestes imageants) a space and a temporality that are not that of a duplication of the empirical world. Seeing and doing are a sensible and philosophical experience that opens the question, not on the truth of images, but that of their reliability and operative energy. Images do not supply a reality already constituted that they would reproduce, but build a constituting perspective responsible of creating a possible world. This is why documentary gestures are ideal gestures that imagine a political horizon.
