Role at the ZKM

Biography

Daria Mille is currently a curator and research associate at the ZKM | Karlsruhe. Her research focuses on the intersection of new media, art, science, and technology, including from a historical perspective. Of particular importance to Daria Mille is the investigation of experimental practices that understand art institutions as agents of change in their capacity to question canons, as well as integrate more sustainable work and production methods. With extensive experience in curating and managing large-scale exhibition projects both in Germany and internationally, D. Mille has worked across both physical and digital spaces.

Over the recent years, she has curated, co-curated and produced the following exhibitions (among others): »Mack at ZKM« (2023/2024), »Critical Zones. In Search of a Common Ground« at six exhibition venues in India and Sri Lanka (2022–2024), »Art in Motion. Masterpieces with and through Media« at the MoCAUP Shenzhen, China (2023) and ZKM (2017/2018), »Marijke van Warmerdam. Then, now, and then« (2022), »BioMedia. The Age of Media with Life-like Behavior« (2021/2022, at ZKM and Centre des Arts in Enghien-les-Bains, France), »Critical Zones. Observatories for Earthly Politics« (2020–2022, at ZKM), »Machine Does Not Give Change« at »Device Art« Festival (2021) for Kontejner | bureau of contemporary art praxis in Zagreb, »Negative Space. Trajectories of Sculpture« (2019), »Hybrid Layers« (2017/2018) at the ZKM etc. She gives lectures internationally, is the author of scientific essays and other publications and serves as a member of various juries. In 2024 she completed a course in the Program in Transformation Management in Sustainable Culture by Aktionswerk Nachhaltgkeit (federal program Actionalliance for Sustainability) and is currently a member of the advisory committee for the »Women in New Media Art« program by AWARE – Archives of Women Artists, Research and Exhibition.
