Biography

Andreas Müller-Pohle is a German media artist and publisher. He is the editor of the journal »European Photography« and the ten-volume »Edition Flusser«, including »Towards a Philosophy of Photography«, written in 1983 at his suggestion. The publication of Flusser’s essay »Die Schrift: Hat Schreiben Zukunft?« (Does Writing Have a Future?) on floppy disc in 1986 is an early precursor of today’s e-book. Müller-Pohle’s work since the 1970s reflects a wide range of interests,  from questions of perception and the deconstruction of the image, to explorations of digital, genetic and political codes, to long-term projects on water (»Studies on Water«) and traffic (»Studies on Traffic«). He is the author of programmatic contributions to photographic theory, such as Visualism and media strategies in the digital age, and has taught at institutions in Europe, North and South America, and Asia.
