On the Ethics of Algorithms
Thu, February 01, 2018 6 pm – 7 pm CET, Lecture

As part of the Medialounge at six Prof. Dr. Tobias Matzner speaks on the ethics of algorithm.

Algorithms are making increasing numbers of decisions, acting independently and defining the society in which we live. It is becoming increasingly clear that algorithms can be discriminatory or can have strong morally loaded consequences. For this reason, there are increasing demands for transparent, fair algorithms. The article shows the problems which algorithms can have and which potential solutions exist. In the process, it becomes clear that just looking at the algorithms themselves is insufficient. The social, economic and material context in which the algorithms are used also plays an important role.
